Day, Cathy. Where Do You Want Me To Sit? Defining Authority Through Metaphor. Leahy, Anna, Ed. Power and Identity in the Creative Writing Classroom.

This chapter discusses the difficulty of the workshop because there are so many expectations of and for it. Day lists several metaphors for the workshop, including a/an:

well,
guided tour,
athletic team,
dialogue,
workplace,
place of worship,
artist's studio,
chess match,
movie theater, and
choose your own metaphor (156).

Day asks her students on the first day to describe their expectations of the workshop by a metaphor so that they can all have a better understanding of the expectations of the class.
