But the Reviewers are making different criticisms.... by Fiske and Fogg

This article didn't tell me too much of what I already didn't know: It's ridiculously difficult to get published, and what one editor likes, another won't. So, just like in any writing workshop class, it's important to get feedback from several sources on a writing-in-progress in order to revise it the best it can be. It also makes sense to screen journals where you plan to send your work, so you can get a sense as to whether or your work fits there, and technical details like how it should be formatted.

This article did show what might be missing from many rejected papers, such as not enough empirical research, a lack of showing the methodology of the work so others can replicate it, not enough analysis of research, or poor advance planning.
